Taylor Willingham, Texas Forums taylor@austin-pacific.com
Nancy Kranich, ALA Civic Engagement Member Interest Group nancy.kranich@nyu.edu
Janice Tsai, Emerging Leaders harraton@cmu.edu
Betsy McBride, Public Voices project bmcbride@vbgov.com
Carolyn Caywood, IFRT task force leader ccaywood@vbgov.com
Nanette Perez from OIF has booked the IFRT task force a 2 hour meeting at Annual on Friday morning, opposite IFC. Nanette Nperez@ala.org & Don dwood@ala.org – ALA OIF staff liaisons, Nanette for IFRT, Don for the blog.
Taylor – working on technology to use for clustering. Use WetPaint http://privacyframing.wetpaint.com/ wiki to:
Betsy: encourage ALA members to suggest more stakeholders to interview.
CC: write letter to American Libraries? explaining interviewing, project?
Taylor: use OPAL to provide training for data gatherers, interviewers. Post interview results on WetPaint. Note that clustering the concerns that come out of interviews can only just begin in 2 hours. Also, post research/literature review to WetPaint.
Betsy: Public Voices used layers of information/research from simple to in depth.
The product of our work will be a one-page placemat-size summary of the framed issue, plus backup research on a website, and maybe a printed guide.
Timetable for interviewing - tie to NLW theme “Come Together @ Your Library”? April 15-21, 2007 http://www.ala.org/ala/pio/natlibraryweek/nlw.htm
CC: Write up intro to project, write up how reference interviewing applies to issue framing.
Next Steps:
1. Send message to Civic Engagement MIG, NIF - is anyone already framing privacy?
2. Invite previous participants to OPAL meeting 10 am EST Monday 2/26. Note: OPAL works on Internet Explorer only. Best if you have a microphone. http://www.opal-online.org/meeting.htm andchoose Texas Forums, LBJ Presidential Library <http://67.19.231.218/v4/login.asp?r=1b261dc2&p=0>
3. 3/14, 7pm EST on OPAL there will be a workshop on citizen journalism which will include how to listen to interviewees. “Marla Crockett, trained NIF moderator, veteran public radio and television journalist, and John Doble, seasoned reporter of public thinking based on National Issues Forums (among other talents!), and I (Taylor Willingham) are joining forces to offer a free online citizen journalism workshop to members of the NIF network on March 14 at 7:00 p.m. The purpose of this training is to prepare volunteers to observe and report on NIF forums. This role is distinct from the moderator or recorder, and is the least understood, but (perhaps) the most critical role in deliberative forums. You can listen to our first meeting by going to: http://texforum.blogspot.com/2007/02/conference-call.html <http://texforum.blogspot.com/2007/02/conference-call.html>.
